My dear Cousin Wakefield Farm 9th Mo 16th 1793
2d Morning
At this time of general calamity and distress to hear from our dear Friends is a great consolation, and that is greatly increased when we can be informed that kind Providence still blesses them with a continuance of their Health, which is at all times a favor, but at this time of deep affliction and close triall (as it is to many) should be esteeemd by us all a much greater mercy than ever. I often thik of hyou, my Heart I hope deeply sympathises with the afflicted, and my connections never felt nearer to me than at this time. I have often thought that in times of close triall those we most affectionately love, seem united to us as by a three fold cord. the accounts we have from our once highly favored City are still very melencholy, and when it may please Providence to stop the heavy judgement that hands over us none can tell, for I have fully believed that it has arose from no accidental or natural causes, but is meant as an awfull visitation to the inhabitants who have long lived in a state of forgetfullness of Him from whom we recieve all our mercys and perhaps when the minds of the people are properly humbled, and their Hearts turned to Him who is only and alone able to preserve us. and who doth not willingly afflict, the chasetisement may be stopped,
