B-59-36 page 1 Dear Brother & Sister Philadelphia 10 mo 14, 1821 Sister Charity's address to me of 1 Instant being received conveyed to us the first & only information we have had of dear Brother Thomas's indisposition at Mount Pleasant which no doubt was cause of alarm to thee, when first coming to thy ears, however as it seems when thou with Arvine went to him at Mt Pleasant, he was much recovered & so soon able to move on slowly home, where he seems to be gradually in the way of Restoration, so I hope these lines will get to hand, when he may be restored to usual health, the hearing of which will be pleasant, if so ordered for thy comfort & relief, Neither myself, nor any of my Chidlren I believe have nay letter from either of you unanswered, I had therefore often thought the time long, since any of us had any Letter from either of you which have always been acceptable. William & Deborah had been out at the Cliffts for upward of [illegible] but as Deborah & the Children were not to say well, & their house in town not being [illegible] onto, they came all the family to our house on 19th of 9th Month after which D was taken with chills & fever & for some days ill. However, she recovered & all their family being well, they went ot their own house on the 11 Instant, where they continue well. Thomas was out at Clifs with them every Night, chiefly on foot going of Evenings & returning of Mornings. For these partsof the Country it has been very sickly & many deaths in the Country & also of Citizens in the City, whose families had been out. the City, thought to be generally healthy, as Thomas, Sarah & myslef have veen favored to be, myself howeer, about as well as I could expect at my age. Wm L Fisher's own family are all pretty well, especailly as his workmen are many of them sick & laid by from Work- at Wm Rodmans they have been indisposed, but getting better, by last accounts at Peter Robeson's they have also had sick in their family for weeks past, now better, Andreas Robeson, who has been on a visit to his Father's about ten days, called this evening to take leave, informs of our Neice Lydia Rodman, who had been ill of a serious fever being relieved by blisters on her neice & much better, & also his little Son Andrew being better as he had been seriously attacked. AR goes home at 6 in the morning. Sarah, William & Deborah & Thomas, all unite in Love to you both with Your Friend, Samual R Fisher Our frd Haldah Sears of Virginia retunred from a Religious vist to frds in England, about two Months or 6 weeks past. Our frd Nathan Hunt returnd from his visit to frds in Ireland, Scotland & many parts of England about a Month since & is gone home to his family, as went to Sears after a few days stay in this City. George Withy a friend from Bristol, England came over, at sometime with Huldah Sears, on a visit to friends in this Country. he went quickly to Canada, they all arrived at NYork, so we have not seen George Withy. Ann Rotch, with thier little ones has been here and at Burlington most of the summer, now at Burlington, Joseph is come on to Return all together to New Bedford shortly. My nephew Joshua Gilpin, perhaps 6 weeks ago had a stroke, which affected his right side of which however, he is so far relived as to walk, his speech I believe also continued he has remained long at Brandywine, so that I have not seen him. [left margin] Sarah having read this, desires me to say that she has a letter from thee unanswered, to which she proposes to give attention. WLF informs me that on 7 day the 13th there were nine funerals within thier knowledge. None of which were residents of his permises, where there is a small number in the beds sick, tho not in his own family.
