In line of battle at
Columbia [Tennessee]. [John Bell] Hood�s Army
is here. We are fighting
him and have been
for several days. I am
afraid that he will fluh [flush]
us out. Our Army is
composed of the 4th and
2 [2nd], 8 [8th] Division of the 23rd Corps
And a few.. [sic] detached troops.
They have about
60,000. Our regiment [49th OVI]
has only lost three or four
men yet. Jacob I sent
one hundreed [sic] dollars [$100] by
the state agent and now I
will send you the receit [receipt].
You will get the money
at Findlay [Ohio]. Watch
the post office at Benton [Ohio]

because when the money
comes he will send you
notice to Benton and then
you take this receipt
and draw it. And if
you don�t get any notice
for some time go and
see anyhow. I drawed [drew]
$205 and would
have sent more but
# could not get the change
I must move, may be fight[ing]
