Title	Davenport Company Cup & Saucer

Description	Historical Staffordshire transfer-printed whiteware cup and saucer were made in Longport, England, by Davenport Company between 1820-1845. There is a blue transfer print on each piece. The exterior of the cup shows a water scene with a sailboat on the water, with trees, people and foliage on the bank. The saucer has the same scene. There is an eagle with a banner in its claw on the uppermost rim of the cup. The inside of the cup has a floral band. There is a floral band on the saucer with an eagle holding a banner in its claw. The cup and saucer are marked on the bottom "Davenport." John Davenport, of Unicorn Bank, Longport, England, established the Davenport Company pottery in 1792. His early work consisted of blue-printed earthenware and in later years the company produced other earthenware and porcelain, stone china and bone china. Davenport retired in 1831, but the pottery continued to operate until 1882.
