Townsend Is now about 70 years of age, ami lias long been known as the Author and Discoverer ot the Genuine Original "Townsend Sarsajiarilla." Being poor, he was compel led to limit its manufacture, by which means it has been kept out of market, and the sulci circumscribed to those only who had proved its worth, and known its value. It had reached the ears of many, nevertheless, as those persons who had been healed oi aoru dlsensea, and saved 1'rolil death, proclaimed its wonderful cures; it relaxes strictures and tightness, removes all obstructions and invigorates tin- entire nervous system. Is not this then the Medicine you pre-eminently need 1 But ciin any of these things In said of S. 1 . Townaend's inferior article ? Now is it not horrible to make and sell, and hitiiiitely worse to use this Souring, Fermenting, Acid " Compound of S. P. Towns-end, and yet lie would fain have it understood that Old Dr. jRcob Townseds Genuine Original Harsaparilla, is an imitation of his nierior preparauon 1 1 Heaven forbid that we should deal In an article which would bear the most distant resemblance to H. P. Townsend's article I We wish it understood. bMHIM it ii thfl absolute truth, that S. P. Towimend'a article and Old Dr. Jacob Townsend's Sarsaparilla arc neaven-wiiie aart, and miimtely ihssnmlar; that ttiey are unlike in every particular, having not one single thing in common. Aa H. P. Townsend ia no doctor, and never whs, is no chemist, no pharmaceutist knows 110 more of medicine or disease than any other common, unscientific, unprofessional man, what guarantee can the public have that they are receiving a genuine scientific medicine, containinc all the virtues of the articles used in preparing it, and which are incapable ot changes which might flitier tiiem me .U'ent- u! Disease instead ol In HllU I Since the above was put in type the following fuel has come to our knowledge; which is truly tyled Thr Triumph of Jimtlcr The Wiir Ended! S. P Tomwnd abandoned thi field Old tk,J$COb Townarndrin diraitdliy the People ttl S. P Townsend has al last iriveu un the manufacture ol any more Sarsaparilln, having disposed ol In" bu-iiiess io sonic strati-gera. Thus his claims to originality and other pretensions fall to the ground. He voluntarily abandons them, in thus evading the issue belorn the public, by disposing of his trade. Tile fact that he was no physician, no cheuiUt, the occupation Of whose Ufa Wtl a worker OH Railroads, canals, chopping wood, .iiiwlogs, dock sticks, &c, tut The fact, also, that his article la came notorious for its Souring, Fermenting and Bursting the Hot-ties, thereby deceiving nnd injuring the sick, ami destroying goods, demonstrates beyond all doubt the fallacy of his pretensions, and the baseless fabric ol his claims. Hereafter it is to he sent out to the people by some Strangers, yet bearing the name of S. P. Townsend. We have been informed that these Straiigersintend to print on the labels the name of some Chemist, in order to redeem, if possible its bad character of Souring and Fermenting. Let the people fully understand that no Hevamping, no new botching, no prefixing of Chemist's names or any other folly will redeem S. P. 1'ownsend's souring compound from public odium, unless it is made entirely different from its present cnaracter ; and il they do this, it will become Hnother article of Sarsaparilln, and they might as well give it another name first as last. It should then be called the "Stranger's Sarsaparilla," and not S. P. Townend's. But if there is no alteration, the people may still expect the same old Souring, Fermenting, Root Beer stutf. We have felt it a duty to inform the public of the true position ot this matter, that Old Doctor Jacob Townsend's Sarsaparilla may not be confounded with this souring article. In conclusion we would remark that some months ago S. P. Townsend letthia old siaml in Fulton st., n first rate store, and sat himself down only a few doors below 11s, in Naussau st., the moiivesand objects ot which we leave others to judge. We understand these Strangers, who have taken up S. P.'s business, intend to remain there. Such conduct needs no comment. We shall move from Nassau street In the Spring, and we will then aee if these Strangers follow us as S. P. did. These bitters hav been used by thousands, and a friend at our elbow say he has himselt received an effectual and permanent cure of L'ver Complaint from the use of this remedy. We are convinced that, in the use of these Bitters, tho patient constantly gain strength an vigor a fact worthy of great consideration. We are speaking from experience and tu the atllicted we adviac their use. ' "Scott' Weekly," one of the beat Literary papers published, aid, Aug. 25: " Dr. Noofiand's German Hitters, manufactured by Dr. Jackson, are now recommended by some of the moat prominent members of the faculty as an article ol much efficacy in eases ol female weakness. As such is the case, we would advise all mother to obtain a bottle, and thus save themselves much sickne. Person of debilitated constitutions will find these Bitters advantageous to their health, as we know from experience the salutary effect they have upon weak systems." Judge M. M. Noah, a gentleman with great scientific ami literary atUimmenla, said in his " New York Weekly Messenger," January "I. Hoofland's German Hitters. Here is a preparation wich the leading presses in the Union npjiear to b unanimous In recommending, and the reason is obvious. It is made alter a prescription turnished by one of the most celebrated physicians of modern times, the late Dr. Christopher Wilhelm Hootland, Profeaaor to the University ol Jena, Private I'hyaician to the King of Pru. sia, and one of the greatest medical writers Germany has ever produced. The Philadelphia Saturday Gaiettc," the beat lamily newapa-per published in the United States the editor say of PR. HOOFI.ASD'S OERMAX BITTERS. "It I seldom that we recommend what are termed Patent Medicines to the cimfid.-nce and patronage of our readera ; and, therefore, when we recommend Dr. Hoollaiid a German Bitters, we wiah it to be distinctly understood that we are not speaking ot 'WMtratH of the day. that are nuiaed about lur a brief period and lio n forgotten after they have done their guilty race of mischief, but of a medicine long establish, d. universally prized, and which has met the hearty approval ol the Faculty itself." Evidence upon evidence has been received (like the foregoing) from all sections of the I'niun, the last three years, and the strongest testimony in its lavor ia, that there I more of it used in the practice of the regular Phyaiciana of Phlladcrphla than all other nostrum combined, a fact that can easily be established, and fully proving that a scientific preparation will meet with their quiet ap proval when presented even in this form. Being poor, he was compel led to limit its manufacture, by which means it has been kept out of market, and the sulci circumscribed to those only who had proved its worth, and known its value. It had reached the ears of many, nevertheless, as those persons who had been healed oi aoru dlsensea, and saved 1'rolil death, proclaimed its wonderful cures; it relaxes strictures and tightness, removes all obstructions and invigorates tin- entire nervous system. They ure pleasant in taste and smell, and can be used by person with the most delicate stomachs with salety, under any c ire urn stances. Ho waa emphatically the enemy of the humbug, and therefore a medicine of which he waa the inventor and endor-cr may be confidently relied on. Under these circumstances, we feel warranted, not only in cnlling the nttention of our readers to the present proprietor's (Dr. 0. M. That this medicine will cure Liver Complaint arid Dyspepsia no one can doubt, after using it as directed.
