From the Toledo Blade TOLKDO THE FAR CITY OF THE WEST. As friends to enterprise and industry, we cannot avoid, again recurring to tho prospects ei" Toledo, and tho vast expanse of country which is to bo curved to the powerful arm of enterprising man. The vast region of COUUtrV which lies 'between th iwn irrnnt in- land sens, lakes Frio nnd Michigan, is soon to be con. centrated into a short sriacc. bv tho comoletion nt the Erie and Kalamazoo Kail-road a work unquestionably n gigantic undertaking: and one which reflects the greatest credit on tho trainers ot this mighty project. Our readers will please remember, that wo speak of n country where but a low years ano was naught hut wilds, naught but the dreary aspectofan unculti- vmeu region. We have heretofore dwelt on this work, nnd had the grntilication to state that thirtv-tbreo miles of this road was completed, from Toledo to Adrian, in Mi- emgan icrritory, and that carsaro now running on this rout. We hope wo shall soon have tho plea sure to proclaim its entire completion, and that the energy which prompted tho undertaking is amply remunerated. To persons familiar with the navigation oi the upper lakes, the hno nnd Kalamazoo Rail-road will be regarded ns a new era in the west, by surmounting the evils which now obstruct commerce nnd endanger the property of individuals who are striving for the prosperity of (he great west. When the great benefits to be derived trout this road nre duly considered, that of saving a distance of.jH') miles which Uhhwiw to bo traveled oyer by the lakes, it will enhance its value and magnify its construction. The point to connect with lake Erie will be tit this place, Toledo; und from thence to tho mouth of the Kalamazoo river, a distance id 1 110 miles. M my reports have been circulated to injure Toledo and mar its prosperity, hut thry art vain. How often is it the case, that lives and property nre sacrificed to tho fury of elemental strife, wNieiiuiieu occurs on ine laues. liuiliilo, L hicngo, and many other ports have suffered severely from thse evils, and had they only been situated at the bend of a short river like the Muuineo, from whence Toledo will expand ami rear its towers, they would have caped the horrors of the tempests and the destruction of the hurricane. Taking every thing info considera tion, the site ot our city is just as it should be, Already ha enterprise commenced its work, thou sands nre rushing toward us to explore the mines of wealth, and secure u rich and abiind-int harvest. The facilities of this embryo city cannot be destroyed by any attempts to attract nttentiou from it; it lia- advantages which the surrounding points have not, and, to a keen observer, this must he seen at n glance, i'or instance, when we view other cities on lake Erie, we observe the necessary point wanting, a line harbor.
