A better proof of wie auuiB ibci , mat, ainco meir introduction, various lmita uona ot tne genuine article have been attempted all falling short of the object, It is true, yet all proving clearly which way the tide of popular opinion is setting. A simple statement of facts, in regard to these Coolers, will satlsly every one ot their superiority. First, they are tbe only article oj toe tana everpaienuiL I ney are lurnisned wttn two distinct non-conducting chambers, by means of which, with two pounds of Ice to the gallon, water is kept (at a temperature of au- oeiow zero, or ouiy aDove in tne ireesing point) all day. Thus, ata costof some tire cents per day, a fnmily of ordinary size enn be constantly supplied with water as cold aa ice itself; larger numbers in the same proportion. This baa been found by actual experiment to bo a saving of at least scventy tlve per eent over the Earthen Jars formerly used for this purpose. Again, these Coolers never sweat ; in tbia way saving much unnecessary waste and trouble. Being manufactured in the most workmanlike style, and handsomely finished In every respect, thpy make a very beautiful ornament for the Dining Room, Hotel or Steamboat. An important improvement has lately been added to tbe Cool er, vizi a small Pan (capable ot holding from six to eight pounds ot butter) inserted directly under the cover. This quantity of butter can be kept perfectly hard all day, without additional ice a very important addition to the economy and comfort of lamiucs. If desired, the Cooler can also bo furnished, at a sninll ex pense, with a Filtering Apparatus, made and lor sale at BUUNET'S House Furnishing Establishment, No. 14. East Front street. Cincinnati. O. But suppose that only half of it, or an addition of two hundred and fifty million, per annum to our an nual agricultural product, is attainable, what an immense addition to our national wealth would thereby be in.tired I Four-fifth, of thia would probably be permanently added to the wealth of the country that is, the furmer whose annual product ahould be swelled from f 1,000 lo $1,250, or from $2,000 to $2,500 would not eat or drink up the surplus, but would invest tbe greater part ot it iu new building., tencei, barns, implements, furniture, &c, &c, giving profitable employ ment to mechanics and laborers, and largely increasing the businea. of merchants, and the income, of professional men. , Such an addition to the annual product of our agriculture, would increase the consumption of manufactures, domestic and imported, in far greater ratio, since from the annual product of every farm the food of those making a living on it must first be taken for home use, affording no business or profit to any one else, leaving only the surplus to form the .tnple of trade; and an addition of twenty-five per cent, to the annual product of each farm, would probably double the annual exchange, and general trade of the country. This addition may speedily be made, through the diffusion of science and knowledge. There is hardly a township wherein vast element, of fertility are not now lying useless or running to waste which might profitably be secured and applied. And while individual and local effort must mainly be relied on to forward this, a8 all other improvements and reforms, it seems but reasonable that the Federal Government should do a little the very little that i. asked ot it toward the accomplishment of the eood work. A Nalional Bureau of Agriculture, costing at the outside $100,000 per annum in all, might procure seeds, plants, trees, &c, from India, Australia, the Pacific, &c, which would be worth millions to the country. The cost of two voy age, to China would naturalize the Tea Shrub or Tree among us, determine what American soil and climate are best adapted to it, and supply us, altera few years, with a home grown article, probably cheaper, and cer tainly more wholesome (because unadulterated) than the Chinese leaf. Beet Sugar i. rapidly .upplanling in Europe that produced from the Cane, though the latter is sold there far cheaper than it ever wa. till very recently ; our prairies and intervale, are naturally better adapted to Beet Culture than mo.t of tbe land, de voted to it in Europe. In fruit culture we have done nothing as yet to what we must and will do; there are scores of delicious traits well adapted to one or more of our climates which are hardly known among us even by name. Many a farmer now possesses treasure, in marl or muck, piaster or phosphate, of which he i. utterly ignorant, and likely to remain ao. We all need light; but agriculture does not keep pace with other department, of productive indu.try in improvement, primarily because it na. not received equal attention from those cupable of shedding the light of science on its onward way. We know and leel the torce ol Ihe prime objection to an Agricultural Bureau at Washington namely, that it is very likely to be made a hospital for partisan in valids, as too many Uureaus have already been. But we urge against this view that, while the necessary cost would be .mall, the certain benefit, would be very great if this Bureau were directed by the poorest stick that could be raked from ihe gutters of political bankruptcy and decrepitude. If he will do nothing but receive the contribution to agricultural science that could not fail to be sent him, allowing some clever clerk to transcribe and reduct the substance, not printing at all, but allowing it to be copied and printed by such agricultural and other journals a should see fit, it would at least pay it. cos'. But an average, ordinary, office-seeking hack could not fail to do far more than this, in procuring seed., plant., etc. ; and-now and then the right man would tumble into the Bureau by accident, and do more to advance American agriculture in the course of four year than the cost nf the Bureau would amount to in a nundred. JV. X. Tribune. We see it stated in an exchange, thatJMadame Anna Bishop ha appeared in public since her arrival from Europe, 1847, (including ber trip to Havana and Mexico.) no less than 743 time. In putting down the net profits of each performance at the very small sum of $150, the whole gain would be upwards of $100,000. At Mexico alone, Anna netted $14,000 in her eight lint nights. Blushing Honors. A lar-e sign, inscribed, "Pierce House," was carried np Chatham street, yesterday. Of course, the first honor to a Locofoco candidate is to have some blackguard rum-hole named after bim. It i a delicate compliment. 2 'rtfttme. EAR DISEASES. Deafness Rndieally Cored. DR.
