The Plattville America (California) gives an account of a peculiar Lake on the east tide of Bear River V alloy, It is an Immense pool of spring water, rather than a lake, a little over one hondred yards In length, along the base of the mountain, and nearly the name in width, but extending In one place under a (helving rock that nearly touohes the surface of the water for many yards. That it is an immense spring issuing from the mountain, is apparent from the fact that any floating Bubstaoca thrpwa under the shelving rock la immediately brought outward to the opposite bank. There is no visible outlet to the waters, except that the margin is little else than rock, with innumerable fissures traversing it in every direction, and through which, with no apparent current at the surface, the water undoubtedly escapes. The surface of the rock at tha fldo-a of tha water end for several Inches above and bolow,' la coaled Mck with a substance closely resembling f ulpbnr, but without IM properties, being onniuauiuiaum. 1 not a living Sub is to b soen in its water-, bnt, digging into and breaking up a kind, of scoria or volcfvnle mud nearly hardened Into stone, that makes a portion of the bank, great numbers of fish, from two to als Inches In length, are Im-bedded therein, and rtarfeetly patrlfled. 450 au?; BBLS.
