Description	These journals describe life in Elmore, Ohio at the turn of the twentieth century, as seen by George Nellis. Nellis writes about the weather, his daily routine, and special events such as the Easter holiday. Two selections are included here. The first journal begins Friday, April 1, 1898 and ends Saturday April 16, 1898. It is 16 pages. The second journal begins March 1, 1907 and ends March 31, 1907. George Nellis (1840-1920) kept these journals from 1891 to 1907. Nellis moved from Pennsylvania to Elmore, Ohio with his father and siblings after the death of his mother in 1879. David Nellis, George's father, purchased a large amount of land near Elmore and became very wealthy. George Nellis was described as having a "remarkable tendency toward higher education and books" and went to Oberlin College to study. He suffered a nervous breakdown and was forced to return home.
