Camp Near Kingston georgia May 21st 1864
Dear girl I seat my self once more to drop you
a few lines to let you know that we are well
and I hope this may find you the same
we left lookout valley may 2 earley in the morning and
marched some 15 miles to gordens mills passing over the
Bloody Battle field of chickamanga here we passed
thousands of graves scatterd promiscuously over the
ground whare ever they fell the timber showed the
severety of the battle for it was tore all to pieces
with cannon Balls and musket shot and what
timber was not shot down was nearley all dead
I saw 4 large trees shot down with in 2 Rods
of each other well the 3rd day we laid still at
gordens mills 4th day we marched some 10 miles to
within 3 miles of Ringold it being on our left 5th we
lay here 6th we marched some 6 miles off to the right 7th
we marched some 16 miles crossing taylors Ridge and comeing
within some 8 miles of Dalton 8th we marched with our
Briggade east 4 miles and formed a junction with the 14th
corps here we scremished from noon untill night driving
in the Rebs some distance perhaps 1 mile in to the gap which
is called Buzzard Roost all the afternoon we heard
heavey cannonading off to our right for gearry had
mooved some 6 miles to the South of us and was fighting them
at a gap in the mountain here he lost some 400 men it
was the first Briggade of the Seccond Division 11th corps now
in Seccond Division of 20th corps we was Relieved at dark and
