My Dear Sir
On my Return to this place
last friday evening, I Believed the disagreeable
information of two friendly Delaware Indian's
being massacred on their way from this place to
Mr Croghans in Cool Blood, by notorious Villains
that premeditated the matter before hand, and
shroud themselves behind brush near the Roadside
upon the occasion, its impossible to discover the
murders at this time, and much more so to bring them
to Condign punishment, because they have all the
force and power the place Can afford in their favour,
but there is strong presumption for pointing out
[blurred word] perpetrators by name.
Happly for this place, about an hour after the
murder was Committed, Lieut Colonel Angus
M Donald of Virginia arrived here, with a small
party escorting stores for the intended Expedition
against the shawnee, and was greatly exasporated [underlined]
at the authors of that Cruel murder, and counted
himself both as an honest man and a man of experience
and judgement in order to Repair the Damage Done
to our friend by Indians, and promised them further
Satisfaction on my Lord Dunmore's arrival here,
who is expected here in a few days. Colonel M Donald
has no other business to Detain him here at this
time, but his own human Disposition to [crossed out word]
protect, both the Friendly Indians and the unhappy
Inhabitants of this place from the Insults of the
