Description	Suffragist Frances Jennings Casement kept this diary of the proceedings of the Painesville Equal Rights Association, an organization she co-founded in 1883. In the diary, Casement outlines her views on suffrage and shows the evolution of the organization. It is 66 pages and measures 4" x 7" (10.16 x 17.78 cm). Frances Jennings Casement (1840-1928) was born in Painesville, Ohio and graduated from Painesville Academy and Willoughby Female Seminary. Her father Charles Casement supported abolition and women's suffrage and encouraged Frances to be active in social causes. Frances Casement established the Painesville Equal Rights Association in 1883 and became involved in the Ohio Woman Suffrage Association, serving as its president from 1885 to 1888.

Full Text	1883- Equal Rights Association For several weeks there had been quiet talking among some of our Progressive women that there was real need of a society in which women could come together and talk of the questions of the day and inform themselves upon those questions and to what they might for the educa- tion of themselves and their Sisters- believing that the time will soon come when men and women will stand as equals and have an equal voice in the government of our Nation.
