Description	In these two letters, dated February 27, 1884 and June 1887, suffragist Susan B. Anthony advises her friend Frances Casement on the workings of the Ohio Woman Suffrage Association. The goal of the association was to secure voting rights for women. In the 1884 letter, Anthony writes that suffrage petitions should be handwritten rather than printed and offers Casement a sample petition on the back of her letter. The letters are four pages each and measure 5.5" x 8.5" (13.97 x 21.59 cm). Frances Jennings Casement (1840-1928) was born in Painesville, Ohio and graduated from Painesville Academy and Willoughby Female Seminary. Her father Charles Casement supported abolition and women's suffrage and encouraged Frances to be active in social causes. Frances Casement established the Painesville Equal Rights Association in 1883 and became involved in the Ohio Woman Suffrage Association, serving as its president from 1885 to 1888.
