Description	During the Civil War, Confederate General John Hunt Morgan led his cavalry troops on a 1,100-mile raid into Union lands. Morgan started in McMinnville, Tennessee on June 6, 1863 and was captured near West Point, Columbiana County, Ohio on July 26, 1863. On July 18, 1863, Addie Brown, a young woman in Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio, wrote this letter to her mother about Morgan's Raid. She reports that the businesses in town were all closed, and that Morgan and his men "are thought to be within 20 miles of us poor 'Ironton folks.' " The letter is four pages and measures 7.5" x 11" (19.05 x 27.94 cm).

Full Text	Ironton, Ohio Friday Eve. July 18 My Dear Mother B. I am just thinking how quietly you [underlined] and Josie [underlined] are sleeping [underlined] to night. Probably never dreaming [underlined] all about [underlined] the excitement we're having in our far distant home And this musing to myself brought me to think that I would commence to letter for your perusal- and then perhaps you might have a faint idea of what been passing in our midst for the few days past: Of course by paper report you are well acquainted with "John Morgans" raid in Indiana, and the commencement of his pleasure trip through Ohio-
