My
Dear
Sir:-
Your
letter
of
July
27th
,
received
and
read
with
much
pleasure
.
Am
glad
that the
little
piece
of
fence
rail
plesed
[sic]
you
.
Regarding
the
location
of
Hardin
Co.
,
I
regret
that
I
can
furnish
very
little
in
addtion
to the
facts
as
stated
in the
copy
of
Mrs
.
Harding's
statement
. From the
location
of
Cairo
,
Ills
.
I
would
suppose
that the
Hardin
Co
.
referred
to
is
not
very
far
from that
town
. and would
likely
be the
Hardin
Co
.
referred
to.
I
agree
with
you
in
believeing
that a
lad
of
Seven
years
would not
do
much
rail
splitting
, and for that
reason
would not
think
that
hardin
Co
.
Ky
was
meant
.
Young
men
of the
age
that
Lincoln
had
reached
when
he
did
his
railsplitting
like
to
visit
distant
points
as
Lincoln
did
himself
when
he
went
to the
slave
market
, and
like
he
much
have
done
, if any of the
events
which
are
referred
to in "The
Crisis
",
so
that a
visit
to
either
Hardin
Co
.
Ky
or
Hardin
Co
.
Ills
.
after
he had
growp
up
was an
event
likely
to
occur
.
When
I
was
10
years
of
age
,
my
father
, on
account
of the
great
panic
of
1873
moved
from
Wilmington
Del
. to
Baltimore
. From the the
[sic}
very
first
of
our
residence
in
Baltimore
,
it
was
my
ambition
to
revisit
my
old
home
, but in
spite
of the
fact
that the
distance
is
only
79
miles
,
I
did
not
get
the
opportunity
until
1879
when
For
[sic]
a
few
hours
I
was
able
to
look
on the
house
where
I
was
born
, and
since
then
I
have
taken
my
sons
and
wife
there, and have in
my
album
a
photograph
which
I
took
somewhere
about
1910
of the
old
small
house
.
So
Lincoln
might
have
gone
back
to
Hardin
Co
.
Ky
and
while...
