Description	These diaries were kept by Isaac Staley of Miami Township in Montgomery County, Ohio. Besides being a farmer, Staley was a toll keeper for the Miamisburg-Springboro Toll Pike. Among the many things he grew on the land, tobacco was a primary crop. He records the planting in the spring, worming of the plants during the growing season, and the harvest in the fall. All winter he and his family stripped the tobacco plants. Several passages in the diaries give details of how much tobacco he sold and income received from the sale. Staley kept his journal in several volumes dating from 1864 to 1913. Selected portions of the journals (approximately 20 pages) are included here. They measure approximately 6.5" x 7.75" (16.51 x 19.69 cm).

Full Text	[corresponds to page 30 of diary] FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 1867. I worked at the close cubbord in the back room and other chores around the house. John hauled Manure on the tobacco Beds and plowed the piece up betteen the house and Stable for plants. and hauled 2 loads of tan Bark paid.30 and retired early SATURDAY 30. I finished the Close Cubbord all but the Door. and helped sow the tobacco Seed and Coforth. I went to Singing in the eaving and bought window sash and hinges &c paid 2.70 and retired early "fine weather" SUNDAY 31. I and Harriet went to English Preaching in the forenoon and spend the afternoon at Sam Whitmyers. it rained in the eaving and we retired early
