Description	The book 93rd Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Stephenson discusses the Croghan Day celebration that took place on August 2, 1906 in Fremont, Ohio. It was at this celebration that George Croghan's relatives allowed members of the Colonel George Croghan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to move the Croghan's remains to Fremont from Locust Grove, Kentucky. The body was interred at the base of the Sandusky County Soldiers' Monument in Fort Stephenson Park. Several dignitaries attended, including Vice President Charles W. Fairbanks and Ohio Governor Andrew L. Harris. Also included are program of events, a description of the Battle of Fort Stephenson, and text of speeches given that day. The book is 105 pages in length and measures 6" x 9" (15.24 x 22.86 cm). Forty pages are included here. Croghan Day is a celebration to commemorate the Battle of Fort Stephenson, which took place in Fremont, Ohio in 1813, and was a major United States victory in the War of 1812. The event was named after the fort's commander, Major George Croghan. The first Croghan Day was observed on August 2, 1839, 26 years after the event. At the time of this first celebration, George Croghan was invited to Fremont to attend the festivities. Croghan, then a colonel, had to decline the invitation, citing his responsibilities as the postmaster of New Orleans. Despite Croghan's absence, the first Croghan Day celebration saw Fremont's population of 3,000 turn out for an ox roast on the Sandusky River bank. The second Croghan Day celebration did not occur until 1852. Since 1906, the Colonel George Croghan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has sponsored Croghan Day each August 2nd.
