Description	These letters were gathered by William Armstrong in his role as the Daily Kent Stater editor in 1970. Three letters represent a range of student reactions to the events of May 4, 1970, when four students were killed by National Guard troops on the Kent State University campus. The first letter, written by Rozanne Davis of Florida State University, expresses support for the students at Kent State and asks for more information about the shootings. Carl Tishler, a 1969 graduate of Kent State University, wrote the second letter. The final letter by Beryl Tuffyas, a sophomore at Kent State, documents her reaction to the violence on campus. The letters are one page each and measure 8.5" x 11" (21.59 x 27.94 cm). Kent State University in Kent, Ohio was placed in an international spotlight after a tragic end to a student demonstration against the Vietnam War and the National Guard on May 4, 1970. Shortly after noon on that Monday, 13 seconds of rifle fire by a contingent of 28 Ohio National Guardsmen left four students dead, one permanently paralyzed, and eight others wounded. Not every student was a demonstration participant or an observer; some students were walking to and from class. As a result of the shootings, the university was closed for nearly six weeks.

Please give as detailed and accurate an account of the shooting and its circumstances with as many witnesses verifcation as possible and send it to the above address. I am a Florida State University student. Many of us here share your grief and horror. I will have printed any infor- mation you can give us in the school newspaper.
