Description	These ambrotypes depict Benjamin Askue Jr. and his wife Flavia Pritchard Askue of Jefferson, Ohio. An ambrotype is an early photograph created by imaging a negative on glass backed by a dark surface. Askue (1833-1906) was a self-taught practitioner of homeopathic medicine. During the Civil War, he served as a field nurse in the 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry (O. V. I.). Askue and his cousin Flavia Pritchard (1836-1893) married in 1853 or 1854. They had six children. Each image is approximately 3 by 5 inches (7.62 by 12.7 cm). They are part of a large collection of Askue letters and artifacts held by the Cincinnati Medical Heritage Center.
