Description	These bulletins and tickets document the programs held at Lakeside, a retreat that sponsored various programs on music, literature, politics, and other topics. The seven-page, 4.43" x 5.57" (11.25 x 14.15 cm) "Lakeside Camp Meeting Annual!" of 1878 shows the influence of the Methodist Church on the organization. In contrast, the approximately forty-page, 3.74" x 6" (9.5 x 15.24 cm) program from 1892 emphasizes entertainment, leisure, and "intellectual improvement." This selection of tickets consists of two 3.8" x 2" (9.65 x 5 cm) passes from 1897 that illustrate the different tickets and admission prices for women and cottage owners. Also included are two 4" x 2.5" (10.16 x 6.35 cm) season passes given to A.J. Seitz in 1896 and 1898. Seitz was an employee of the Lakeside and Marblehead Railroad, which brought passengers to the resort from 1887 to 1930. The final item is a three-day pass for the July 2-4 celebration in 1892. Future President William McKinley gave the July 4 address. Lakeside, known as the Chautauqua of the Great Lakes, was established in 1873 as a Christian Methodist summer camp and camp meeting grounds. The original section of 170 acres along the shore of Lake Erie in Danbury Township, Ottawa County, was purchased by the Lakeside Company. The Central Ohio Methodist Conference then created a Camp Meeting Association to work with the Lakeside Company to develop the property and conduct meetings. People flocked to Lakeside for revival meetings, but once men and women were converted, they did not need to return. In efforts to attract repeat visitors, Lakeside held a Sunday school assembly prior to the camp meeting in 1877, with educational and recreational programs. Although some did not approve, the assembly was a success. Reverend and Mrs. B.T. Vincent, brother and sister-in-law of the founder of New York Chautauqua, took over the assembly in 1879 and developed the modern program to include music, art, and secular education.
