Description	Reverend Lloyd Burdette Mignerey maintained journals covering many parts of his life. He kept this journal, "Crumbs" while considering careers in teaching, preaching, or serving as a field secretary for the Anti-Saloon League of America. Volume 54 includes July 1-14, 1920, during which time Mignerey visited Blanchester and Mowrystown, Ohio among other towns. Mignery also describes an affair with a young woman he was courting. Although his description is candid, he appears to wrestle with the moral implications of his actions. This 43-page item measures 6.7" by 8.2" (17 by 20.8 cm). Reverend Lloyd B. Mignerey (1896-1988) was born in Mowrystown, Ohio. He graduated from Otterbein College in 1917, then enlisted in the U. S. Army. During World War I he served in the Medical Corps and drove an ambulance in France. Following the war he studied at the Sorbonne in Paris briefly before returning to the United States. He served as the field secretary for the Anti-Saloon League of America until the 18th amendment, which prohibited the sale of alcohol, was passed. He married Ruth Phillips on September 11, 1921. In December of the same year they departed for missionary work in Sierra Leone, where they served until 1924. In Sierra Leona he became acting principal of Albert Academy and became an avid supporter of the movement for one universal language, Esperanto. In 1926, he was ordained into the ministry; he served in United Brethren churches in Lancaster, Chillicothe, and Jackson. Mignerey obtained his private pilot's license in 1940 and enlisted in the Air Force as a "Sky Pilot" chaplain in 1942. He remained in military service throughout World War II and the Korean conflict. When he returned to civilian life in 1955 he became editor for the Temperance Education Foundation in Westerville, Ohio until he retired in 1964.
