Description	This is the first atlas published for Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The title page, table of contents, tables, illustrations, and a selection of seven maps focusing primarily on Cleveland's downtown area are part of the online scrapbook. One of the maps is of Berea and illustrates the location of the Berea sandstone quarries and Baldwin Institute, now Baldwin College. Illustrations include the residences of J.H. Wade, founder of Western Union Telegraph Company; Stephen Harkness, financier of Standard Oil Company; and Alva Bradley, a prominent shipbuilder. Many local businesses are also represented, including stables, stores, and blacksmith shops. The complete atlas is 205 pages, including 54 individual maps (mostly 2-page), 47 pages of engravings, and a seven- page "Business Directory." Full plate sizes vary from 16 by 12.5 to 16 by 29.5 inches. The "Titus" atlas, as it is often called in reference to publishers Titus, Simmons and Titus of Philadelphia, portrays a county that would soon change significantly, experiencing increases in population, industrialization, immigration, and urbanization. In 1870, the population of the county was 133,105. In 2000, Cuyahoga County had 1.4 million residents. In 1874, Cuyahoga County was primarily made up of rural townships, with few incorporated areas. Today, remnants of only 2 of those townships remain, with 57 incorporated areas.
