Description	On May 10, 1890, a group of women formed the Soldier's Monument Association, with Mary Moore as president. By 1896 they had collected $1116.85 toward the $1744 cost of the monument. The monument was dedicated on May 30, 1901 with 5,000 people in attendance. The streets of Mechanicsburg were elaborately decorated and crowded with people. Members of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) from Mechanicsburg and Catawba took part in the procession. It stands approximately 25' (7.62 meters) high. More than 200 Civil War veterans are buried in Mechanicsburg's Maple Grove Cemetery. One of them, Thomas W. Thompson, was a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient (1921) for his four years of service and valor at the Battle of Chancellorsville.
