Description	Alfred Wolcott kept these field notes while surveying Brecksville Township in Cuyahoga County in 1811. The survey was made prior to partitioning land in the township. Wolcott's notes comprise approximately fifty 6" x 8" (15.24 x 20.32 cm) pages. Selections are digitized here. Also included here is a three-page explanation of the provenance of the survey, which is at the end of the volume. Township and town namesake John Breck, an iron importer in Northampton, Massachusetts, purchased from the state of Connecticut lands in the Western Reserve that eventually became Brecksville. His son Theodore Breck was born in 1808 in Northampton. After his father's death, Theodore and his brothers emigrated to Brecksville to care for the family's lands. A farmer and businessman, the younger Breck also served as Cuyahoga County commissioner from 1843 to 1846, state legislator from 1846 to 1848 and 1876, and senator from 1862 to 1863. He never married. Theodore Breck donated Wolcott's survey notes to Cuyahoga County in 1886.
