of the
provenance
of the
survey

which
is
at the

of the
volume
.
Township
and
town
namesake
John
Breck
, an
iron
importer
in
Northampton
,
Massachusetts
,
purchased
from the
state
of
Connecticut
lands
in the
Western
Reserve
that
eventually
became
Brecksville
. His
son
Theodore
Breck
was
born
in
1808
in
Northampton
.
After
his
father's
death
,
Theodore
and his
brothers
emigrated
to
Brecksville
to
care
for the
family's
lands
. A
farmer
and
businessman
, the
younger
Breck
also
served
as
Cuyahoga
County
commissioner
from
1843
to
1846
,
state
legislator
from
1846
to
1848
and
1876
, and
senator
from
1862
to
1863
. He
never
married
.
Theodore
Breck
donated
Wolcott's
survey
notes
to
Cuyahoga
County
in
1886
.
