Description	Three photographs show Benjamin Chapin, a nationally-known Abraham Lincoln impersonator. They measure 8" x 10" (20.32 x 25.40 cm). Chapin (1874-1918) was born in Bristol, Ohio. He graduated from the New Lyme Institute and became a lecturer. By 1902 he had entered vaudeville and was playing the part of Abraham Lincoln in one-man shows. In 1906 he and his sister Lucille Ann Chapin expanded Chapin's vaudeville act into a four-act play. Chapin wrote and starred in the film The Son of Democracy, which was produced in 1914 as a series of episodes. In 1918 the last of the ten popular episodes of The Son of Democracy was released. Many people who knew Lincoln attested to Chapin's skill in portraying the president, including General O. O. Howard, General Frederick D. Grant (son of Ulysses S. Grant), and Mark Twain.
