Description	The Red Book of the Cadets of Temperance of the State of Ohio was printed in Cincinnati in 1848 and was intended as a guide for the conduct of meetings and special ceremonies for the Cadets of Temperance, a youth organization dedicated to limiting alcohol consumption. The book measures 4.25" x 5.75" (10.79 x 14.61 cm) and is 54 pages long. While one of the goals of the Cadets of Temperance was to help children keep their parents from drinking, its main focus was persuading children not to start drinking. The group adopted elaborate ceremonies and uniforms. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom joined the Cadets because he was "attracted by the showy character of their 'regalia."
