= STOP 5 RIOT=
It had been ladies day on the picket line at
the Republic steel stop 5 gate on Poland avenue
on that peaceful and quiet summer [crossed out] saturday
June 19, 1937. The quiet would of remained so
had it not been for a Youngstown policeman
who interupted the peace by stopping a lady picket
from taking a photograph of the lady pickets
assembled at the stop 5 gate, when the policeman
rudely jerked the camera out of the lady pickets
hands, her husband who was nearby attempted
to retrieve the camera from the clutches of the
anti union cop which lit the fuse and the
excuse for the itchy trigger fingers of the
special police that had been hired by the city
administration to exert their brutal authority
over the lady pickets by firing into the crowd
of ladies whom were seated on folding chairs
in anticipation of getting their pictures taken.
From that overt act the husbands of the
ladies swarmed down and from their homes on
Lansingville hill and entered into the melee
to protect their women folks, by that time
as dusk approached reinforcements of police
and deputies arrived at stop 5 and tried
to disperse the pickets that were coming to
the aid of the women with tear gas and
