Description	The Spiderweb was published annually by the junior class at Hiram College. It consisted of information on the organizations that existed at Hiram and details of academic life. Poet Vachel Lindsay helped to illustrate the college annual in 1897-1898 and is mentioned as a member of the Delphic Literary Society. His photograph was published in the 1898-1899 edition, shown here. Both volumes are approximately 75 pages and are 8" x 10" (20.3 x 25.4 cm). Lindsay did not graduate from Hiram College, but he received an honorary degree in 1930. He is best known for his forceful rhythms and his desire to popularize poetry among the American people. For several summers between 1906 and 1912, Lindsay traveled around the country reciting poetry in exchange for food and shelter. He is best known for his poems "The Congo" "General William Booth Enters into Heaven" and "The Santa Fe Trail." Lindsay's work declined in the 1920s as he suffered from mental illness. He committed suicide in 1931.
