The above Rebus is issued to enlighten the public upon the merits of STAR SOAP. For correct solutions we propose giving §1,000.00 in premiums, divided as follows, in 630 prizes:
First Grand Prize, $100

Subject to the Following Conditions:
Answers must be in by noon of November 10th, 1896, but the awarding of prizes m.ay not take p' xce until November 15th. This intermission is necessary in order .o have time to go over all solu¬ tions carefully. Solutions as received, until November 10th, whether right or wrong, will be properly filed, with date of receipt and name and address of sender.
There will be eight (8) classes of prizes, divided as above. Prizes will not be drawn as heretofore—as a drawing is against the United States lottery laws—but will be awarded according to the general excellence of the answer, as follows: A committee of three disin¬ terested and competent judges will decide upon the merits of the correct solutions, and will give the first prize to the BEST solution in every respect; second prize to the second best solution, and so on down the whole list, the prizes being awarded for merit and skill, and not by chance as in a drawing.   No type-written solutions ac¬
cepted. In deciding which are the " best" solutions the judges will take in consideration spelling, composition, explanation, punctua¬ tion, arrangement, etc. This is really the correct method, and we feel that the public have confidence enough in us to believe that the awards will be made impartially, and the whole plan carried out fairly. If there are more than 630 correct answers, of course some will get no prizes. A full account of the awards, together with ihe Author's key to the Rebus and the names of those who have received prizes, will be published as soon as possible thereafter and mailed to all who have sent in solutions, and best of all, the fortunate ones will receive their prizes. Remember that no solution will be con¬ sidered correct unless it is absolutely so. If you fail on one word you nevertheless fail, and as completely as though you had but one line correct. This is but justice, not only to Schultz & Co. but to those whose answers are correct. Also, remember that you must send in two solutions—one in verse, the other explanatory. By looking at the key for last Rebus, on this page, you will understand our mean¬ ing. You can send as many answers as you like, but only one correct answer from each person can compete for a prize. Do not write, asking what this or that may mean; we can not answer any questions. In sending in solutions be careful to write your name and address plainly. Remember it will take about two weeks after November 15,1896, before we can send out a printed account of the awards, with a full list of the prize winners.
Each solution of this Rebus must be accompanied with a wrapper taken from STAR SOAP, or it will not be entered. We require this as an evidence that competitors are taking an interest in STAR SOAP.
