Description	Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt published A Voyage to the Fortunate Isles in 1885. Several of her best-known poems, including "Playing Beggars" and "There was a Rose" can be found in this volume. The book is 220 pages long and measures 4.5 by 6.5 inches (10.8 by 17.8 cm). Sarah Piatt (1836-1919) was born in Lexington, KY and graduated from Henry Female College. She published over 150 poems in the Louisville Journal including some that played a part in the flirtation between Sarah Morgan Bryan and her future husband John James Piatt. Sarah Piatt published seventeen volumes of poetry. She also contributed to such national journals as Atlantic Monthly, Harpers, and St. Nicholas. She married Piatt in 1861. The couple moved to Washington where he had a clerkship in the department of the Treasury. Later they moved to Ireland where John James served as consul. Much of their lives were spent in North Bend, Ohio. While some of her poems deal with sentimental themes that were popular during the Victorian period, others addressed issues such as childhood and death in an unconventional manner. Many of her poems reflect her situation as a southerner living in the north during the Civil War.
