Description	Washington Galloway served as county surveyor for Greene County between 1853-1877. His small diary was found within a collection of surveyor's field notes from the Greene County Engineer's Office. The diary, which measures 4" x 6" (10.16 x 15.24 cm), highlights the daily life of a land surveyor and local government official in Greene County, Ohio in 1874. It includes 26 pages of text (digitized here) and approximately 15 pages of notes. Significant topics covered in the diary include temperance, religion, surveying, and weather. In one passage, Galloway chastises women temperance supporters, urging them to "Stay at home and attend to their own business that is domestic affairs."
