Description	These four 7.5" x 5.5" (19.05 x 13.97 cm) programs document the activities of the Woman's Tourist Club of Mechanicsburg, Ohio. The first program (1894-1895) was on American history, with discussions on "Prehistoric America" "Causes of the Civil War" and "Woman in America." Three other programs are shown here: Germany (1897-1898), Russia (1900-1901) and Italy (1898-1899). Other countries the group explored include Japan, England and the Netherlands. Mrs. Katie Mulford formed the Woman's Tourist Club in 1894 with the idea of improving the community. The club was instituted and federated by the Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs Convention in October 1894. The name was chosen because members were to "tour" other countries through research. Members presented papers, plays, music, and customs of the nation they were studying. Meetings were held twice a month in the afternoon, and programs were in keeping with the countries chosen for the year's study. Club presidents were elected for one-year terms, and Mrs. Kate Mulford was the first president.
