Description	These four photographs depict the Williams County Courthouse during and soon after its construction. The first two 5" x 7" (12.7 x 17.8 cm) photographs show the courthouse under construction in 1889. The third 5" x 7" (12.7 x 17.8 cm) photograph is of the construction workers who built the courthouse. The last item is a postcard of the courthouse when it was finished in 1891. The cornerstone for the Williams County Courthouse was laid on April 30, 1889. On Saturday, June 28, 1891, the only Republican county official, surveyor John C. Grim, had the honor of being the first to occupy his office in the new courthouse. The courthouse was the design of Toledo architect Edward Oscar Fallis, who is credited with designing more than 107 structures in northwest Ohio and the surrounding areas. The Williams county courthouse and its sister courthouse in Albion, IN are both Richardsonian Romanesque in style. Popular from around 1870 to 1900, the style is characterized by fortress-like structures with towers, recessed windows and arched entryways.
