[corresponds to page 1 of letter from P.M. Allen to Mrs. Hitchcock Regarding Admission to Charity School]
Massillon Feb. 3d 1862
Mrs Hitchcock
Your letter of Jan. 26th
was duly received. After consulting
with one of the Board of Directors, I write
to inform you that if the boy is twelve
years old, of Sound body & mind and
good habits & has no other means of
obtaining good educational
advantages, he can choose a
guardian who will become
responsible for his remaining
in the School during his term
of four years from next
June & the School will admit
him whenever his guardian
brings him down-
He will have to go before
the probate Judge there [carrot mark] at [above carrot mark] Akron
to choose & have his guardian
qualified. You can act as his
guardian as well as any one-
Respectfully yours P.M. Allen
