Description	This carved ceiling and panel were produced for the Blessed Lady Chapel in the St. Ursula Literary Institute. The chapel was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary in thanksgiving for her protection during construction. Wishing to enhance their place of worship, the Ursulines hired Benn Pitman of the School of Design, University of Cincinnati, to teach women of the religious order to carve wood. Pitman required the use of local oak and cherry wood and designs from local foliage. The ceiling measures 15 by 7.5 feet (4.57 by 2.28 meters). The panel is approximately 9 by 40 inches (22.86 by 101.6 cm). The woodcarvings were preserved when the original building was razed in 1985.
