Description	Two articles from the Catholic Universe Bulletin document Mother Teresa's visit to Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio in 1978. The first article recounts Mother Teresa's luncheon address at the college, where she spoke about her experiences helping the poor in India. A second brief article includes an image of Mother Teresa exchanging the sign of peace with Bishop James A. Hickey. Mother Teresa (1910-1997) was born Gonxha Agnes Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Albania. When she turned 18, she joined the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known as the Sisters of Loreto, in Ireland and received the name Sister Mary Teresa. She first went to Calcutta to join the Loreto Entally community in 1929. She taught at St. Mary's School for Girls, and became its principal in 1944. After receiving what she described as a "call within a call" in 1946, Mother Teresa began working directly with the poor in Calcutta. In 1950 she established the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, which eventually expanded to dozens of nations around the world. Mother Teresa's work for the poor was recognized with a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. On October 19, 2003, Pope John Paul II beatified Mother Teresa, the first step towards sainthood.

Assist¬ ing her was Notre Dame Sister Mary Marthe, college president. Monday afternoon Mother Teresa received an honorary doctor of Humane service degree from John Carroll University's president, Father Henry F. Birkenhauer.
