Description	This catalog from the Cleveland School of Art (now the Cleveland Institute of Art) was published for the 1937-1938 school year. Pages seventeen to thirty-seven are included here and discuss the school's curriculum. The catalog also includes short biographies of famous people associated with the institution. It is 52 pages in length and measures 9.5" x 6.75" (24.13 x 17.15 cm). Founded in 1882 as the Western Reserve School of Design for Women, the Cleveland Institute of Art is one of the oldest independent art colleges in Ohio. The school initially focused on vocational aspects of art, and many of its students were involved in the art pottery and glass industries. Enrollment quickly grew to include not only young women in need of vocational training, but also daughters of the city's elite who were seeking to improve their skills in the arts. The demand for art training was so large that the school also began accepting men. The school was briefly associated with Western Reserve University in the late nineteenth century, but differing perspectives on the art education made for a stormy affiliation. After three years, the school reaffirmed its charter as an independent institution.
