Description	Sandusky High School science teacher E. L. Moseley wrote this letter to the board of education recommending that the high school's science museum be open to the public on four Sundays in 1908. The one-page letter measures 7.75" x 10.25" (19.69 x 26.04 cm). In a second letter from 1915, Moseley offers his complete collection of specimens if he is offered a position as curator of the museum. The letter is six pages in length and measures 5.75" x 9" (14.61 x 22.86 cm). Edwin Lincoln Moseley (1865-1948) was born in Union City, Michigan and graduated from high school at age 15. He attended the University of Michigan and began teaching high school in Grand Rapids. In 1889 he moved to Sandusky, Ohio, where he served as teacher of natural sciences from 1899 to 1914. He also established a museum. In 1914, Moseley was appointed one of the first faculty members at Bowling Green Normal College (now Bowling Green State University). He served as science professor and head of the biology department until 1936. From 1936 to 1948 he was the curator of the college's natural history and science museum. Moseley authored several books and monographs and numerous articles. An honorary doctoral degree was conferred on him by Bowling Green State University in 1943. Upon his death, Moseley donated his estate to the university to assist worthy students in need. The fund continued to award scholarships through the twenty-first century.

Full Text	[corresponds to page 1 of E. L. Moseley Letter from Dec 1, 1907] Sandusky, Dec 1, 1907 Mr. H. B. Williams, Superintendent of Schools, Dear Sir: Permit me to suggest that the high school museum be opened to the public on four Sundays in 1908 as it was in 1907, the second Sunday in each month, beginning with January. In 1907 the months were Febru ary to May, but the attendance in May, owing to outdoor attrac- tions, was only 271, as compared with 612 in February, 846 in March and 409 in April. Respectfully E. L.
