Description	These two photographs and two drawings represent different views of the Antioch College campus soon after its construction. Antioch Hall, completed in 1853, served as the main building for the college and included a chapel, lecture hall, recitation rooms, laboratory, and library. Two dormitories were also constructed, one for men and one for women. The first photograph measures 8" x 10" (20.3 x 25.4 cm), and the drawings and other photograph are approximately 9.5" x 6.5" (24.13 x 16.51 cm). The Christian Church, a Protestant denomination, founded Antioch College in 1852 as a coeducational, nonsectarian college. The name represents the Syrian City of Antioch where, according to the Bible, the disciples of Jesus were first referred as Christians. The board of trustees chose reformer and educator Horace Mann as the college's first president. In its first year Antioch enrolled eight students in the college, and over two hundred in its preparatory department.
