Description	Included here are the constitution and the minutes of the October 28 and November 24, 1896 meetings of the Followers of Pallas Athena (F.P.A.), a study club organized by the women of Wadsworth, Ohio. The F.P.A. had no regional or national ties and was one of the many self-help, education, and social clubs organized in cites and towns across the country during the latter part of the 19th century. Although only selections are included here, the complete volume is approximately 65 pages and measures 6.5" x 9" (16.51 x 22.86 cm). The F.P.A. met once or twice each month, October through March, in members' homes. One member was responsible for presenting a paper on a particular subject; other members provided related musical or literary entertainment. For many years, members picked a topic or theme to discuss during the season, such as "International Personages" "Spain" and "Travel." All presentations and entertainment then related to the topic. This item is part of a larger collection of materials relating to the Followers of Pallas Athena. It includes minute books covering meetings for all but four years between 1896 and 1980. It also includes a complete set of annual program books, which list the scheduled presentations and entertainment for each meeting as well as names of officers, and members.

Full Text	Oct. 28/1896 - A circle of ladies gathered at the house of Mrs. C.A. Curtis, Mon. Eve., Oct. 28/96 - for the purpose of organizing a Literary Club. Mrs. M. C. Lytle was chosen chairman. Meeting was called to order, and election of offi- cers followed which resulted as follows: - Pres. - Mrs. M.C. Lytle, V. Pres. Mrs. C.A.
