County
Homecoming
celebration
. The
first
shows
the
home
of
Dr
. A.
C
.
Messenger
on
2nd
and
Detroit
streets
.
Messenger
was a
committee
member
of the
Homecoming
Association
. The
second
photograph
shows
John
W
.
Prugh's
home
on
North
Galloway
.
Prugh
was also a
committee
member
of the
Homecoming
Association
. The
final
photograph
shows
Judge
Marcus
Shoup's
home
on the
corner
of
Collier
and
East
Main
streets
. The
first
photograph
measures
6.5

"

cm)
and the
second
and
third
measure

"
x
7.5
"
(23.50
x

cm)
. In
1906
it
was
noted
that there were a
number
of
former
citizens
Of
Xenia
,
Ohio

who
had
achieved
success
. The
1908
Greene
County
Homecoming
event
was
suggested
by
Russell
F
.
Greiner
, then
living
in
Kansas
City
,
Missouri
, in a
conversation
with
J
.
F
.
Orr
, then
president
of the
Commercial
Club
. The
Commercial
Club
appointed
a
committee
of
fifty
to
plan
the
event
,
chaired
by
postmaster
Orr
. The
homecoming
was
held
in
Xenia
from
August
30
to
September
2
,
1908
.
Sunday
,
August
30th
was
Church
Day
,
August
31st
was
Reception
Day
,
September
1st
was
Military
Day
and
September
2nd
was
Gala-Historic
Day
,
which
included
a
parade
. The
festivities
concluded
with a
grand
ball
.
