Description	The sheet music "Gov'nor Cox, You'll Surely Do" was written in support of Ohio Governor James Cox during his presidential campaign of 1920. Cox ran as Franklin Roosevelt's vice-presidential running mate on the Democratic ticket. He lost to Warren G. Harding, who was also from Ohio. The sheet music is five pages and measures 9.5" x 12.25" (24.13 cm x 31.12 cm). James M. Cox (1870-1957) served two terms as governor of Ohio (1913-1915 and 1917-1921). Born in Jacksonburg in Butler County, Ohio, Cox worked as a reporter before becoming the owner and publisher of the Dayton Daily New in 1898. He was elected to Congress in 1908 and served two terms. Cox embodied the Progressive ideals of civil service reform, prison reform, and direct election of state officials. During World War I, however, he was forced to settle several labor issues by ordering workers to return to their jobs and supported a controversial law banning the teaching of German in public schools. The law was later struck down by the Supreme Court.
