ICE! Friday April 1 1898
A loud rapping at t door caused
one to arise and put on clothes
I met B Boggs at t back door and
offered him a stool with 4 legs.
He asked me my charge to go
to t Toussaint cemetary with him
and some 300 pounds. I thought 40c [superscript]
would be about right and he thought
50c [superscript] for 2 trips would be about right.
I was to go on or before Monday.
With my old split spade I worked
on t road perhaps nearly an hour
and rounded it up between t ruts
in front of my barn. Wm [superscript] Bothe
has been beating down a track by
hauling flour barrels. Conrad
Miller got a load of wood and I told
his wife in German that there were
most lovely shavings at t planing mill
almost like feathers. Mrs. Lach-
miller is troubled with a strained
ankle caused by a misstep on the
porch stairs where she fell.
