Description	This certificate and letter document the award of merit that Gottfried Kirschner Jr. received from the drawing department while a student in the Cincinnati Public Schools. Kirschner (1863-1957) was the son of Prussian immigrants who came to Cincinnati in 1853. Although his teachers encouraged him to remain in Cincinnati because of his artistic ability, he moved to Adams County with his family in 1877. He changed his name to Frederick Victor Kirschner and sold hardware in Adams County for many years. The certificate and letter each measure 8.5 by 11 inches (21.6 by 27.9 cm).
