Description	Fourteen 8" x 10" (20.32 x 25.4 cm) photographs show highway construction projects in Lucas and Wood counties. Included are photographs of the construction of interstate highways I-280, I-75, and the Ohio Turnpike. In the 1950s Ohio and other states began major projects to develop superhighways connecting major cities and other states. The Ohio legislature authorized the Ohio Turnpike Commission to build a 241-mile superhighway through northern Ohio in 1949. Ground was broken for the project on October 27, 1952 and the turnpike opened on October 1, 1955. 44,000 cars drove on the turnpike on opening day; 10 million cars traveled on the highway in 1956.
