Description	This 368-page book, written by D.J. Kenny and published by Robert Clarke & Company, was published in 1875. Part I of the book is included here. It covers the city and its institutions, such as railroads, tourist attractions, public charities, statistics on city government, churches, schools, and banks. The final section deals with Over the Rhine, a German neighborhood. The book contains numerous engravings of city buildings and bridges. Cincinnati, the county seat of Hamilton County, is located on the Ohio River opposite Newport and Covington, Kentucky. Founded in 178, the city was originally called Losantiville. In 1790, Arthur St. Clair, governor of the Northwest Territory, renamed it in honor of the Society of Cincinnati, a group composed of men who were officers in the Revolutionary War. Cincinnati was home to the government of the Northwest Territory. In the nineteenth century, Cincinnati became an important center of business and industry. It also attracted a large number of immigrants, principally from Germany. The city's nickname was bestowed by poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882), who in a poem called "Catawba Wine" called Cincinnati the "Queen City of the West."
