BIOGRAPHY OF JACK KLUMPE
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati in 1942, Jack Klumpe worked
as a geography teacher at Holmes High School in Covington, Kentucky. Because he
was a teacher and did not have to work during the summer breaks, he began working
summers at The Kentucky Post. After two summers, he resigned from his teaching
position. in order to work there full- time. At The Kentucky Post, Klumpe worked as a
reporter and city editor. In March 1945, he left his position at The Kentucky Post to take
a job at The Cincinnati Post. In 1946, as photojournalism was becoming more popular,
Klumpe became the second photographer to be hired at The Cincinnati Post. Klumpe
became a pioneer in the Cincinnati area for using the 35mm camera for covering news
events. Klumpe worked at The Cincinnati Post for 43 years. He was primarily a
photographer, with the exception of serving as picture editor in the early 1960s and
when he was chief photographer in the 1970s.
For almost 25 years, Klumpe’s specialty was sports photography. He covered a
wide range of sporting events including the games of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals,
Royals, Xavier University, University of Cincinnati and local high school teams.
Klumpe retired from The Cincinnati Post in September 1985. He resides in
Mason, Ohio with his wife Marie.
