Waldheim is going to Israel, Egypt and Jordan and perhaps also to Lebanon and Syria. TEL AVIV (WNS)—An Israeli army spokesman has confirmed reports from the United States sources that North Korean pilots are flying in the Egyptian Air Force. He said it is believed that between 10 and 20 North Korean pilots are already in service of the Egyptians. " TEL AVIV (WNS)-Rep. Ogden Reid (D. N.Y.) told a press conference here that Congress will adopt the amendments to the trade bill linking United States trade concessions to the Soviet Union with Soviet agreement to end harassment and restrictions on Jews wishing to1 emigrate to Israel. Reid, a former U.S. Ambassador to Israel, said the U.S. would "never" sacrifice human freedoms and the elementary right to emigrate for "convenience" in foreign policy. * Hebrew School Announces Opening Of Fall Term Galili Says Israel Took A Calculated Risk Lebanese Plane To Land pi X o 3> 0) Daniel Harrison, principal - of the Columbus Hebrew School, announces > the opening of the Fall Term, Monday, September 10, and Tuesday, September 11. S Classes at 'the Central 'School - Jewish Center, 1125 College Avenue, Monday and Wednesday sessions to begin. September 10. Tusday and Thursday sessions begin September 11, class sessions are from 4-6 p.m. Eastside Branch - Temple Israel, 5419 East Broad Street, class sessions are held, on. Tuesday and Thursday, and will begin Tuesday, September 11, 4 to 6 p.m. Northside Branch - Beth Tikvah Congregation, 3199 , Indianola Avenue, classes are held on Monday and Wednesday, and will begin Monday, September 10, 4 to 5:45 p.m. - The Hebrew School sessions on- Sunday at Agudas Achim, Beth Jacob and Temple Israel, will begin Sunday, September 16. Letters will be mailed to all parents indicating days students will attend. Pupils who attended Hebrew School last year are automatically re-enrolled. Registration in the beginners classes are now being accepted at the Hebrew School office. Students eight years old, entering the third grade in public school, are eligible to enroll,-Students nine, years old, who did not begin Hebrew studies last year, will also be accepted in the beginners classes. For registration and particulars, call 231-7764, Monday and Wednesday 9- (CONTINUED ON PAGE 4) Israel took a calculated risk when it allowed a hijacked Lebanese airliner to land at Lod Airport Thursday, Minister Without Portfolio Israel Galili disclosed here. "We preferred to take the risk because we feared the hijacker might blow up the plane in the air and we would bear responsibility because we did not prevent it." Galili said on a television interview - Friday night. The hijacker, 37 year-old Muhammed Atouni who is a citizen of Libya, was remanded in custody for 15 days by a Jerusalem Magistrate Friday. Judge Moshe Goldberg denied his request' for release pending trail. ,The judge described Atouni'sact as "serious." If convicted he faces a possible -life-sentence^—— ----- The. hijacker was sub¬ jected to prolonged in¬ terrogation Friday night and was examined by a psychiatrist. He claimed throughout that his action was motivated by a desire to prove that Arab and Jewish nations could live in peace. He claimed that he did not intend to use the two pistols he brandished when he • seized a Lebanese Middle East Airways Boeing 707 oyer Cyprus and ordered it to fly to Israel. The plane, with 125 passengers and crew members, was on a flight from Benghazi to Beirut. It was permitted to take off from Lod Thursday after Atouni was removed by Israeli security forces.' Evidence Hijacker: • Was An Arab Atouni's interrogators said there was no" doubt that the hijacker, is of Arab origin .because his Arabic speech left no room for doubt. They made the statement in response to allegations by pi ' -t the Libyan Ambassador to-< Iraq that Atouni's manner of speech raised serious doubts that he was an Arab. The widespread Arab claim that' Atouni was an Israeli agent was also refuted when Radio Tripoli reported that he was a native of Zintan Village and had a Libyan passport (CONTINUED ON PAGE 10) U. N. Security Council Resolution Unanimously Condems Israel Center Early Childhood Dept Announces School Program Mr. Robert Aronson, President of the Jewish Center and Dr. James I. Tennenbaum, Chairman of the Early Childhood > Ser¬ vices Department, announce the beginning of the 1973-74 school program. The five- day a week Pre School will begin on Wednesday, Sep¬ tember 5, three day a week Playschool will begin on Wednesday, September 12, two day a week Play Group will begin on Monday, September 17, and the Mother and Child program will begirt on Monday, September 24. The school is now being readied for the coming year. Wall-to-wall carpeting is being installed x in all classrooms. Furnishings and1 rooms are being painted ahd cleaned. New equipment and books have been ordered. The Early Childhood Services' Staff will begin, their orientation Tuesday, August 28, to plan and prepare for the arrival of the children. During the orientation, which ends Tuesday, September 4, home visits should begin. Each teacher will contact the individual families and set up an appointment for this very important visit. In an effort to provide the best possible school ex¬ perience for each child, the Early Childhood Services Department has cut back on the enrollment to decrease the teacher-pupil ratio. As a result, the morning session is now filled to capacity, with the exception of the two day a week Play Group for two year olds where there are still several openings. There are" also a few openings in the afternoon Pre School program for four and five year olds. These are. filling rapidly and interested parents should phone the school immediately. UNITED NATIONS (JTA)—The Security Council adopted unanimously on Aug. 15 a resolution condemning - Israel for its interception of a Lebanese jetliner and warning that If this type of act is repeated the Council "will consider taking adequate steps to enforce this ' resolution." The resolution, sponsored jointly by Britain and France, also called on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to consider the Council action when discussing adequate 1 measures to safeguard in¬ ternational civil aviation against such incidents. The ICAO general assembly is scheduled to convene Aug: 28 in Rome. The resolution also told Israel to "desist from any and all acts that violate Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The resolution stated that the Council was "gravely concerned that such an act carried out by Israel, a member of the UN, con¬ stitutes a serious in¬ terference with international civil,' .aviation..." "and "...could jeopardize the lives and safety of passenger and crew." i The resolution also charged Israel with violating Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity, and with the violation of the 1949 Lebanese-Israeli armistice, ' (CONTINUED ON PAGE 4) Israeli Officials Angered By Security Council Vote JERUSALEM (WNS)- Although there was no im¬ mediate official government reaction to the Security Council condemnation of Israel's interception of a Lebanese airliner, officials privately expressed anger at What they considered a one¬ sided ruling. Israeli newspapers said the Council vote will not prevent Israel from taking action against terrorists. Gen. David Elazar, chief of staff, said before the Council action that Israel has "the right to exist and defend itself" and that Israel will .continue to strike at terrorists and their bases. Swedlow Named Chairman Of The UJFC Annual Meeting Norman Meizlish, President of the United Jewish Fund and Council, has appointed Mrs. Gerald Swedlow Chairman of the Annual Meeting of the UJFC. "The meeting will feature a unique program this year, highlighting in an unusual way -matters of direct concern to the entire Jewish Community." Said Mrs. Swedlow. A new format, to be an-' nounced soon,-will make the evening's • program a MRS. GERALD SWEDLOW stimulating and exciting one.'The program will take place at 7:30 p.m., October 21 at Beth Jacob Synagogue. Presentation of the Theresa Stern Kahn Young Leadership Award and awards to campaign leadership will be made, and there will also be the election of new officers.
