He Is one of thd^fetVr.persondUties in the Jewish.IHptneland who. coUia achlev^ i uiUty, s among (jiiik ¦', too . »n«»tfePcyiM?!MJia!^!#}r"'" ' 1^ ' Unique Shop Will Hold Formal Opening Sunday, September 22 The "571" Shop, a bake and craft shop, sponsored by the Co¬ lumbus Co-ordinating Commit¬ tee, will open Its doors to the public at a reception on Sunday, Sept. 22, at the new shop's loca¬ tion, 571 E. -Rich St. Patterened after one of the most unique and successful ven¬ tures of Its kind, the Cincinnati Bake Shop conducted In that city by the United Jewish So¬ cial Agencies for the aid of in¬ digent persons, the project here gives employment to more than a score of women who during the past three months have been ln'.enslvely trained by profes¬ sional home economists in the finest traditions of home bak¬ ing and sewing. Beginning, modestly with the perfection of one or two special ties which have passed rigid tests for high quaUty and good¬ ness before being offered for sale, the executive committee headed by Mrs. E. J. Gordon expects to add new products and services such as catering as the business develops. Special ceremonies will be conducted this Sunday, Sept. ISth, at 2:30 p. m., at the Agu¬ dath Achim Synagogue In hon¬ or of the gift of a Sefar Torah (Holy Scrolls) by Morris Bloom, life long member of the Congre¬ gation. The ceremonies will be under- the direction of Rabbi M. Hirschsprung, who together with attorney I. W. Garek will deliver the main addresses. Ap¬ propriate vocal selections will be rendered by Cantor P. H. Gellman. The presentation of Holy Scrolls is always a most impres¬ sive event in the synagogue as It reaffirms our faith in the Torah which has preserved the Jew throuout the ages. Know¬ ledge ot the Torah and Its cul ture m Its true sense was at all times an important aspect of the Jewish religion. The Immigration Department malnulned that the refugees ar¬ rived with improper immigra¬ tion papers. The ship, the Zawba, reached Vera' Cruz last •week.
